"In 1994 Ken Saro-Wiwa was imprisoned by order of the dictator Sani Abacha. He had strongly defended the rights of the Ogoni people and criticized the government's oil policy with Royal Dutch/Shell. Despite wide international protests, Saro-Wiwa was hanged after a show trial with other eight Ogoni rights activists in Port Harcourt, on November 10, 1995." Shell was complicit in the murdering of this activist to suppress resistance against them destroying the Niger delta.
This thursday(the 10th of november) is the 10th anniversary of his death I think we should organise a protest at the shell petrol station near the royal mail center in middlesbrough. We could put pictures of him and his name up at the petrol pumps or something. would any like to does this? or has any one got any ideas?

This sounds like a very interesting idea... at any rate we could have a public minutes silence marking his death outside the union or shell.

Sadly we have not been able to organise an event in time to remember Ken Saro-Wiwa's death. However i ask all people and planeteers to look on news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4421188.stm to understand more on why this man should be remembered.
